DESCRIPTION:

Discover how narrative reflection and conversation can deepen connection and meaning in the care of seriously ill patients and their care partners. Participants will explore evidence-based approaches and leave with practical tools to use in their practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Rate narrative reflection as valuable
  2. Describe how to apply narrative conversation techniques in caring for patients with serious illness
  3. Identify one narrative strategy to use in practice

PRESENTER:

Dr. David S. Wu, is a  palliative care physician and educator at Gilchrist who is a nationally recognized leader in narrative conversation training. Prior positions included Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins and Senior Research Physician at NIH. He is also a writer, close to finishing an MA in Creative Writing at Johns Hopkins.

After graduating with a BA in English from Yale University and an MD from the Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Wu completed Internal Medicine residency and Palliative Medicine fellowship at the University of Washington. He has practiced as a general internist, hospice physician, and palliative care physician. Recognition includes awards from the American Hospital Association, Cambia Health Foundation, the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Johns Hopkins.

POLICY FOR CLAIMING CEU CREDIT

Maryland Gerontological Association offers One Category 1 Social Work CEU Credit and One CMC Contact Hour to those that attend a live session and complete the evaluation by the posted deadline. 

To claim your CEU Credit:

  1. Attend the session in its entirety.
  2. Complete and return the mandatory program evaluation by the posted deadline.

Within 48 hours of the posted deadline, CEU certificates will be emailed to participants  who have completed the evaluation.  It is the responsibility of the participant to maintain accurate records of their credit hours.
