Older Americans are far and away the largest victims of financial fraud and scams. Find out why and what can be done to stop crooks and swindlers from widespread theft against seniors.

PRESENTER:

Paul DelPonte heads the National Crime Prevention Council, where he works with McGruff the Crime Dog® and a talented team of professionals to empower everyone Take A Bite Out Of Crime®. Under his leadership, McGruff sports a 3D look in new public service announcements on television, streaming services, in an award-winning social media effort, and racing around the NASCAR circuit. NCPC is nation’s trusted voice in reducing violent crime, stopping fentanyl in deadly fake pills sold online, battling fraud, standing with victims in preventing sexual violence, and other 21st century crimes. 

An accomplished strategic consultant and consumer advocate, DelPonte guided communications and public policy for a range of nonprofit organizations, foundations, and corporations. As a senior advocate, DelPonte was instrumental in establishing the Alliance for Aging research and served two terms as Commissioner on Aging in Montgomery County, Maryland.  “License to Steal,” a report he authored for the Gray Panthers, remains one of the benchmark studies highlighting widespread financial fraud and abuse committed against seniors. In 2015, he had his own “McGruff Moment,” when he came forward as a whistleblower to stop theft and fraud in a federal job training program for seniors and veterans, and one of only a handful to receive full federal protection for his efforts. 

 He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Catholic University of America and was a graduate fellow at Harvard University examining community improvements to reduce prison recidivism.
