1. Understand that older adults are more likely to attempt and die by suicide than any other age group. Be able to recognize the warning signs and risk factors of older adults.  
2. Understand Emile Durkheim’s theory of Suicide from a Sociological perspective and how it can be used to develop interventions.  
3. Learn what professionals working with older adults can do to promote emotional health: assessment tools, education, provide resources and build community support.     

PRESENTER:

Mary Ann Buckley LCSW-C holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Social Work.  The majority of her thirty-year Social Work career has been focused on supporting older adults and their family members in the capacity of a Care Manager. She has led community Alzheimer's Support Groups and Hospital-based Stroke Support Group. Mary Ann finds fulfillment in providing presentations to senior groups/communities and Social Workers on age-related issues.

Mary Ann is the Director of Community Outreach and Education at Corewood Care, stepping away from her full-time position last year as the Director of Care Management to allow her more time to be with her 96-year-old Mother in Ohio.  

POLICY FOR CLAIMING CEU CREDIT

Maryland Gerontological Association offers One Category 1 Social Work CEU Credit and One CMC Contact Hour to those that attend a live session and complete the evaluation by the posted deadline. 

To claim your CEU Credit:

1. Attend the session in its entirety.
2. Complete and return the mandatory program evaluation by the posted deadline.

Within 48 hours of the posted deadline, CEU certificates will be emailed to participants  who have completed the evaluation.  It is the responsibility of the participant to maintain accurate records of their credit hours.
